You cannot visit Rio and fail to notice the statue of Christ perched majestically atop the Corcovado (‘hunchback’ in Portuguese). Along with the Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açucar), it is a mandatory tourist attraction. Much is made of the train that takes you to the top but the views on the way up are pretty restricted and, after all, it’s just a train.
Hiking tour on the trail that leads to the Corcovado mountain, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is located, crossing rills and constructions of the coffee cycle and old empire. The place reserves an exuberant part of the Atlantic Rainforest, where you can see various species of animals that inhabit the area. This trail requires some physical effort because we must overcome a few steep gaps inside a dense forest with some natural obstacles along the way. Almost on the top, it crosses the Corcovado Railroad, where there is a slab that serves as a belvedere for ecotourists.
Once on top of Corcovado mountain, we visit Christ the Redeemer statue and then come back through the trail. For the ones wondering an extension after the tour, it´s possible to take the transfer to Paineiras and after a pleasant walk, check out the view at Mirante Dona Marta.

Description:
Corcovado, meaning “hunchback” in Portuguese, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 710-meter (2,329 ft) granite peak is located in the Tijuca Forest, a national park. The most popular attraction of Corcovado mountain is the Christ the Redeemer Statue and viewing platform at its peak, drawing over 300,000 visitors per year. From the peak’s platform the panoramic view includes downtown Rio, Sugarloaf Mountain, the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (lake), Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Estádio do Maracanã (Maracanã Stadium), and several of Rio’s favelas. Cloud cover is common in Rio and the view from the platform is often obscured. Sunny days are recommended for optimal viewing.
